Love the Sweet Words

Spoken words are just one way we communicate with others. Our thoughts are the words we say to ourselves.

When we want to complain or be negative we can get our point across with a critical look, or an exhausted sigh, a cold shoulder or even an intentional retreat.

If you find that you are using words that hurt, either yourself or someone else, stop and check your thinking. Make it…

“Right Thought”
“Right Speech”
“Right Action”

I was in a restaurant about six months ago and a saying on the wall caught my eye. I had never heard the advice stated so simply and I actually wrote the quote down on a napkin and tucked it inside a book.

I had forgotten about the quote until the tiny piece of napkin fell out just the other day.

Loving yourself starts with not only how you see yourself but what you say to yourself on the inside. When you begin to love yourself unconditionally, you will find that it is so much easier to be kind to others.

The quote on the wall in the restaurant:

“Keep your words sweet, you just might have to eat them.”

Smiles, gena

Love the Bootstraps!

The saying, “Pull yourself up by your
bootstraps”, has been around for decades.
No one really knows where it came from
or who said it.

It’s origin is not important. The
meaning is very profound: “improve your
own situation without any help from others”.

I have been using the straps on my red cowboy
boots to pull them on each morning and it occurred
to me that I could just as easily pull myself “UP”.

Having a positive attitude and feeling grateful is
totally my responsibility and when I intend to make
that happen my day runs smoothly.

I have gotten in the habit of pulling my boots
on and sauntering out to meet the day with a
smile on my face.

How do you pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
Straps are really crafty little handles to make
the task of improving your attitude much easier.

Loving yourself is at the core of your
intention to become your own best friend.
No matter how difficult the situation,
you are the coach. Encourage yourself to
take a deep breath, plant a smile on your
face, dust yourself off and start all over again.

Be well and stay that way,
Gena

Love the Boots!

When my granddaughter, Selah, was
4 years old, I bought her a pair of
red cowboy boots. She wore them
everywhere and I loved watching her
run around with a new sense of
confidence and joy.

To be honest, I have always wanted a
pair of red cowboy boots and just
recently I treated myself to some
burn-red footwear.

The boots were a special order and I
had to wait almost two months before
they arrived. There was certainly a
need to practice loving my
“impatient self.”

To my delight, the red boots were more
comfortable than I had imagined and it
was a shock that walking in them was a
bewildered challenge. The boots were
new and needed to be “broken in”.

Initially I found that I had to slow
down my gait, breathe, and remind myself
to stay focused on walking.

The rushing around I do in my life was
suddenly brought to a dramatic halt.
One step at a time became an enchanted
way to stay present and love the moment,
as well as my new red boots.

Is there something in your life that will
help you slow down, breathe, and enjoy the
present moment? Make yourself a promise to
leisurely saunter at some point during your
day, no matter what you have on your feet.

A couple of my dearest friends have tried on
my red cowboy gear and their joy was deliciously
infectious. They couldn’t help but love the boots!

Smiles,
Gena

Love you Anyway!

Think about falling in love with
yourself as an ongoing process. You
always have a choice of giving yourself
the attitude of unconditional love and care .

“Love Your Slim Self” is the title
of my first book but learning how
to love all the parts of you is
my intention to help enhance your
sense of joy in life.

There is a cookie swap party coming up
where everyone brings a couple dozen cookies
and you go home with a grand variety
of homemade confections.

I decided to make peanut butter cookies
with a Hershey Kiss on top! Yummm!

I really expected the candy to melt
and make the cookies delicious.
What a surprise when the little
tops of the chocolate kisses burned
in my uncooperative oven.

My initial response was to throw the
batch out and start over. The cookies
didn’t look as good as I had expected.

Is there a time in your day, or even in
your life when you don’t quite look as
good as you expect?

I wanted the cookies to be tasty, sweet
and surprisingly scrumptious. They were
really “Okay”, and definitely good enough
to bring to the party.

Can you give yourself permission to be
“Okay” at times when you aren’t sure you
could even go to the party?

Take a break from being so hard on
yourself. Offer the compassion and
understanding you deserve, and love
yourself anyway.

You’re learning to celebrate your lovely
“Okay” self and my goal is to help
you come to know and love all the
parts of you. We’ll do this together,
so stay in touch.

Be well and smile today,
Gena
